Nihongo-yoku – Tanabata & Japan First Steps (1-day experience)
July | Beginner-friendly Japanese language & culture
Curious about Japan or travelling soon? Join us this July for a one-day Tanabata edition of Nihongo-yoku, designed for beginners and first-time travellers.
Tanabata (Star Festival) is a time to pause and make wishes. 星に願いを — wish upon a star, and take your first step into Japanese language and culture.
What we’ll do (all in simple Japanese):
• Create tanzaku (wish tags) and reflect on hopes for the future
• Learn hiragana, katakana, and basic kanji, plus essential phrases for travelling
• Explore Japanese etiquette: do’s & don’ts, chopsticks, sitting on a zabuton, and everyday gestures
• Enjoy a tea ceremony with seasonal wagashi, plus playful activities
• End with a Nazotoki / escape-style game
Included:
• Lunch
• A Nihongo-yoku journal for notes, sketches, and travel tips
This one-day edition is perfect for beginners who want to try Nihongo-yoku, experience Japanese culture, and gain practical skills — all in a small group, sitting around the kotatsu on tatami mats.
