Nihongo-yoku – Hanami Edition (3-day experience)
April | Flowers, language & quiet play
Hanami is the Japanese tradition of gathering to enjoy sakura — cherry blossoms that bloom brilliantly, then fall again after only a few days. Their short life reminds us of wabi-sabi: beauty in impermanence, noticing what is here now.
This April at Nihongo-yoku, we celebrate hanami over three days — slowly, attentively, and together.
What we’ll experience:
• Make and share a hanami bento , inspired by spring picnics under blooming trees
• Experience ikebana, learning how to bring the season indoors
• Mini games to practice kanji, focusing on numbers, flowers, and nature
• Discover and use kotowaza, such as
花より団子 — dumplings over flowers
• Play Hanafuda , the traditional flower card game
• A Nazotoki / escape-style game:
Solve the Mystery of the Tea House
Included:
• Lunches during the experience
• A Nihongo-yoku journal for notes, sketches, reflections, and playful language moments
We gather in a small group, sitting around the kotatsu on tatami mats, sharing food, words, and quiet concentration — a space that feels unhurried and close.
